We have a great deal to be thankful for this Thanksgiving at Belaire (Ken & Gloria Hansen) and Dante (Elizabeth & Ben Brinkley).  Our beautiful pointed blue girl - Wynstone's Belle Amie whelpled a litter yesterday sired by my boy Fayr Isle Double Justice.  Amie is such a lady that she waited until we had finished Thanksgiving dinner to drop her temp and start early signs of labor.  After a long night of close watching, she started heavy labor at 5 am and popped the first puppy at 6 am.  The last pup was born at noon - six hours start to finish <g>  She did a wonderful job and is a fantastic momma so far.  I had been hoping that she would hold out untilsince it is my husband, Ben's birthday <lol> Makes it very easy to remember the birth date for this litter although I am not sure he appreciated a birthday present of seven very noisy puppies in the bedroom <VBEG>.  I whispered in Amie's ear to think blue girls and I guess she was listening.  She had one black girl (possibly bi-black, we are still waiting to confirm but she looks totally black) two flashy blue boys (one of whom might be biblue)four blue merle girls for a grand total of SEVEN healthy squirming babies.  They range in weight from 7.1 ounces to 9.2 ounces and are very uniform.  The most wonderful thing about this event is that Amie's litters before she came to live with us consisted of two singleton littersc-section and a twosome litter, so Gloria and I are thanking our lucky stars that we have so many beautiful babies from our beautiful friend.  Photos are up on my website and Gloria's at http://www.belairemanor.com/home/  We have been truly blessed this Thanksgiving.  I know Amie is relieved.  She was beginning to resemble a walking beach ball.  <LOL>Ask me if I feel the same way at Christmas when I have seven four week olds trying to get into everything

From Cammi’s perspective, it was another fun day of agility.  At the completion of her run, she got to run around the course again making it up as she goes (she loved that).  Then she got all these pictures taken of her. (During the pictures, people kept saying South Park, but she didn't get to go to the park.  Bogus lying picture takers!)  She also told her daddy that he stole one of the jump bars from the course.  When she got home, she got a juicy steak.  After all the excitement, belly up in the air, she told her daddy that it was only another day of agility and that she wanted to know why she doesn’t get steak all the time for her agility runs.  Then she fell asleep next to her mommy by the sofa.

Taking a break from AKC agility, the Slepcevich crew visited our neighbors north of the border in Stevensville Ontario on August 12th & 13th.  “Hannah” U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD, RN, AX, MXJ, NAC, NJC, OGC, RS-N,JS-N, GS-O, CGC, TDI, was thrilled to get 6 runs in one weekend, and earned her first Canadian title...Agility Novice Jumper, with a 2nd, 3rd & 5th place.Unfortunately, the CKC also has contact zones on their contact obstacles, and Hannah missed every one of them, so we didn’t get that standard title.  “Hayley” U-ACH Hullston’s Return To Sender CD, RN, OA, OAJ, NAP, NJP, AG.N, NAC, OJC, NGC, JS-N, CL1-R, CL1-H, CGC, TDIA, VCC, FFXP, reported she was thrilled she didn’t have to do anything, as we resisted the urge to pull her out of retirement to compete again in Novice Jumpers.  It was strange to compete in an agility trial without any Border Collies...they’re not allowed to compete in Canada!!

Peter & Yvette Grandillo are proud to announce…. the saga continued at the Westmoreland County Obedience Training Club agility trial on August 12th & 13th, 2006.  Since both are now up and running at Excellent B standard and jumpers, both could compare their results with one another.  Cammi ended up with two double Q’s, two 1st Place finishes, two 2nd Place finishes, and 95 MACH points.  Dawson finished with one double Q, two 3rd Place finishes, one 5th Place finish, and 42 MACH.  This made Dawson very confused because in a couple of the runs, he beat Cammi in time, but finished lower in placement.  Dawson whispered into his mother’s ear (Yvette), “Why did Cammi get a toy and I did not when my time was faster.”  Well, big sister - Cammi’s super sonic hearing picked up the whisper and she blurted out because “We don’t compete at the same height.”  That’s when dad had to step-in and explain to Dawson about how he is just a little bit taller than Cammi, but enough to make them compete at different heights.  Dawson’s logic made him turn around and say, “I don’t like all those fast 20 inch Border Collies any more.”

Nancy Grebur tells us that...On August 5, 2006 at the Canfield, Ohio Obedience Trial my Sheltie, Ranger finished his 3rd Novice A leg to obtain his CD Title. He placed 2nd. Bennie is owned by Tom & Nioma Coen.

And...Debbie tells us that another of her boys – Ch. Hullston’s Sirius Black (Ch. Kell Renaissance x Ch. Hullston’s Iridescence) better know as Sir Hullston, HF also made two cuts. Out of 108 male specials both Bennie and Sir made it to the top 20.  We’re definitely proud of them.

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich are thrilled to report that...At the GTOTC Agility Trials in Cheswick       Memorial Day weekend, U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD RN AX MXJ NAC NJC OGC    RS-N JS-N GS-O CGC TDI "Hannah", earned the 11th leg of her Master Excellent Jumper, and the 1st leg of her Master Agility Excellent, plus 11 more MACH points.

AND...the following weekend at the CCOC Trials in Cheswick, Hannah earned her 12th & 13th MXJ legs, her second MX leg, her first “Double Q” and 19 more MACH points.  Hannah had really been getting really tired of reading how Cammi, Dawson & Ozzy went to the fast food restaurants to get their rewards for a good show, and she decided that her first “Double Q” deserved a big time reward.  Nothing from a restaurant chain would do.  She decided she wanted gourmet ice cream.  So we went to Kip’s (named after the owners dog) and got two homemade vanilla puppy cups with a milk bone on top.  She was nice enough to get one for Hayley too.  I think Hayley may be changing her mind about     Hannah being a show off, and may start encouraging her to compete even more if she’s going to get to share in the rewards.   As everyone knows...her motto is “What’s in it for me...Hayley”.

A special thank-you to everyone who supported us along the way through every single title.  The UDX bar awarded by WCOTC is a great touch and rightfully takes its place beside Allegro and Bill's MACH bar.

(We took a break Saturday to practice Agility).  Marko only needed 2 points to finish his Breed Championship:  Thursday:Marko got Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex. Entries were at 2 points; however it broke to only 1 point. So he was now 1 point away from that CH title.  Friday:HE DID IT.Marko took Winners Dog for 2 points and finished his breed championship. All of Marko's points were earned with his Owner......Me, as his Handler !!  Sunday:Marko moved up into the Best of Breed Competition. And I was so very proud that he took BEST OF BREED over three other Specials that were entered. He made the cut in the group ring but was not awarded a placement there.        Monday:He had a repeat performance on Memorial Day and took BEST OF BREED over one        Special. No cut was made in the group ring and Marko was not one of the 4 dogs that the judge chose.  Marko is now CH Damingo Marksman's Hi Speed Bullet, OAJ, NA and was bred by and is co-owned by Joanna Fortson.  Thanks for listening to my brag.......I will be seeing my agility friends a lot more in the near future !!

BRAGS FROM THE MAY 2006 NEWSLETTER

Marlana Tice tells us that...At the Sheltie National in Virginia Beach, Emprise Just Three Wishes ("Justi") made her agility debut in the 12" Novice B JWW Class.  Justi amazed me by running a perfect course in 29.97 seconds for FIRST PLACE.  Course time was set at 47 seconds.  (Not bad for a 13 1/2 Inch "Princess Daughter").  Justi was bred and is co-owned by Diane Troese.

Julie Iverson tells us that...Homespun had a great time at the National.  It started out on Sunday with Lynmarr Send in the Clown AX OAP AXJ OJP "Emmett" getting a first place in excellent jumpers preferred.  Not only did he get a blue rosette but he also received a beautiful ASSA silver bowl and completed his title.  Now we'll be working on our masters title.  Weaver qualified in both his runs and Kellie qualified in her jumpers run.  Weaver went on to make a cut in the best of breed competition on Saturday.  It was a very fun but tiring week.

Walter Piroth reports that..."At the Sheltie Nationals on Sunday April 23 in Excellent Jumpers, oZZy and I had the run of our lives. This was one of those times when everything was effortless. We found ourselves in the zone. The Course, oZZy and I were one. I don't believe I gave oZZy more then a few commands and very little direction. He just knew. It was an awesome experience. It really doesn't    matter but we knocked a bar and NQ'd. In our Excellent Standard run we qualified but in no way did it compare to what happened in Jumpers. We celebrated the day with another trip to the beach."

Joanna Fortson is thrilled to inform us that...At the 2006 ASSA National in Virginia, Ch Damingo Colt Forty Five....... "Pistol", took 4th place in the 9-12 veterans class.   He was shown by Greg Speeks, who did a beautiful job.   Diane Troese did most of the grooming on him as I was way too nervous.  I am very proud of him and of his placement and want to thank all that made it possible, and having club friends there to share it all with made it even better.....

Joann Avery tells us that... My elderly gentleman, Brett; CH. Brownlee Hi Caliber ROM, went to the National at VA Beach...he had a great time, and thought that he was three years old...having had surgery for cancer twice in the last four months, it was quite a triumph.  He ended up placing second in the 12 and up class.  He appreciated the applause, support and love he received...the superb handling by Julie Desy...and the Maury Povich make over by Mary and the whole Islemist team.  And he couldn’t take the smile off his face, for the grand showing of his son, Pistol “CH Damingo Colt Forty Five”, fourth in the large and hotly contested 9-12 yrs class.

Bill Herbein tells us that... At the April 23rd American Shetland Sheepdog Association Nationals in Virginia Beach, Rondo, handled by Bill Herbein, brought home a 1st place silver bowl in Excellent B Standard Preferred winning over his 'brother' Allegro, who NQ'd due to excessive speed, i.e. running faster than Bill.  Trio performed admirably turning in great times and gaining his 15th Excellent B Double Q.

Anne Trosky is proud to report that Levi (now officially... Saranac Bedazzled N BluJeans NAJ, CGC) earned his first Double Q at the A.S.S.A. Nationals at VA Beach on April 23, 2006.  Levi not only acquired his first Novice Standard leg with a third place finish, but also completed his Novice Agility Jumpers title with a second place finish. Needless to say Levi's first trip to the beach was fun and rewarding!  After all of that hard work at the Agility trial he especially loved playing in the waves with his crazy buddy Tony and  the more reserved Trio, Rondo and Allegro.  Thanks to all of those that helped and the "great cheering section from the East".

AND...not to be outdone, Shadow (Moonshadow of Summerridge, CDX, NAJP, CGC) finished his Novice Agility Jumpers Preferred title at WCOTC's Agility Trail on May 13, 2006.  Now the race is on to see who gets his Standard title first!!

Elaine Mayowski tells us that...Kyrie (U-AG1 Saranac Better In Black MX, MXJ, CD, CGC, TDI, CL1-F, CL1-R, CL1-H, TN-N, WV-N, NJC) qualified on March 31 in Excellent Standard at the Blue Ridge Dog Training Club.  Then on April 2 she qualified in Excellent Standard and Excellent Jumpers giving her her 13th Double Q and 45 more Mach points.  Way to go my "Little Bear" I am so proud of you.  Woo Hoo !

AND...Kyrie qualified on April 22  & 23 in Excellent Jumpers at the Parkersburg Obedience Training Club agility trial with both 2nd places and 33 more Mach points.  Way to go my "Little Bear."  Love Ya ! AND...Kyrie (U-AG1 Saranac Better In Black MX, MXJ, CD, CGC, TDI, CL1-F, CL1-R, CL1-H, TN-N, WV-N, NJC)  qualified on April 29 in Excellent Standard at the Cleveland All Breed agility trial with a 3rd place and 14 more Mach points.  Way to go my "Little Bear."  Love Ya !

Jackie Herbein tells us that… At the BCOTC Rally Trials in Saxonburg on April 29-30, Jackie and Rondo entered their first Novice B Rally Trial.  On his first time out, Rondo earned a perfect 100 score and 1st place.  On day two, Rondo tried to earn a building cleaning credit [wrong building] by pulling the leash out of Jackie's hand to investigate a possible treat.  This caused Rondo to lose a point and also a few seconds of time and the team was edged out of 1st place by tenths of seconds and earned a 2nd place finish.  Rally seems to be Rondo's forte now that he doesn't have to do the stinkin' UD exercises anymore.

Deborah Miller-Gurchak tells us that...Ellis aka L.S. (Shamont’s Paden Blue), finished his Rally    Novice title April 29, 2006, he had a great score of 97.  The judge was Ms. Deborah Cecotti.

Peter & Yvette Grandillo are pleased to announce that… the saga between Cammi and Dawson resumed.  As you may already know, Dawson was injured for the Beaver County Kennel Club show at the Pittsburgh Convention Center.  Since Dawson was not in the show, I had no brags to post on the website last month for Dawson.  Dawson was ready for the WCOTC Agility Trial over Mother’s Day weekend.  Dawson recalled being a lap dog at the computer, when he saw Cammi’s picture only go up on the website for the last show.  Heartbroken, he vowed he would do his best in the next show, and Cammi refused to be outdone.  Neither disappointed resulting in SEVEN first place runs, one second place run, one third place run, three double Q’s and 148 MACH points, all in Excellent B 16” and 20”.  Dawson did edge out Cammi with his two double Q’s against her one double Q; however, Cammi did slip and fall off the dog walk (no injury) but that slip cost her a run.  Given I won’t fault Cammi for slipping, the two finished even with one another. The most important part… On the ride home, we stopped at the Golden Arches fast food restaurant (can’t say McDonald’s or we get them excited)  for their reward, a vanilla ice cream cone.  Keeping the competition going, the race to who can get the most ice cream continued in the car.  Bite after bite, whisker shiver after whisker shiver, they both got a head rush, licked their lips and fell asleep dreaming of their next agility run. (Picture on right.)

Nancy Grebur tells us that...Ranger and I went to Sheltie Nationals in Virginia Beach. We did Obedience on Monday, April 24th. We are just starting in Novice A working towards our CD Title.  We earned our first leg there with a "1st" place.  We received our ribbons and a beautiful silver bowl for placement.  I was in total shock! The human half of Team Brynn (who was getting awfully tired of carrying the Sheltie half off the course for breaking her start line stay) is delighted to report that Brynn brought her A-game to the USDAA trial in Mentor Ohio this past weekend.  Running in the Performance Two classes against some real  competition at this very big trial, Brynn and handler Karen Rose Cercone qualified on four out of seven runs and earned two 1sts and three 2nd placements.  One of Brynn's clean runs came in the Leap-n-Chase tournament class, where she ran a masters-level steeplechase course in only 38        seconds.  Brynn also completed her PII Standard and PII Jumpers titles over the weekend, which means she now moves up to run those scary-hard USDAA masters courses.  Hmmm ... on second thought, maybe we should have broken a few more start line stays!

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich are thrilled to report that...U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD, OA, MXJ, NAC, NJC, OGC, RS-N, JS-N, GS-O, CGC, TDI "Hannah", finished her Agility Excellent with a 3rd place, at the Beaver County Kennel Club agility trial on March 26th.  (Picture on Right)
