Brags from the December 2009 Newsletter

Cathy Artis tells us that...We went to Harrisburg Thanksgiving weekend (and went thru an inch of snow crossing the mountains !) for the UKC Agility trials.  And Quincy did good !!!  He ran in all four trials and got four Q's.  The first three got him his AG I title and included a first place and two clean runs (but not perfect scores as mom was over time).  That bumped him up to B level for his last run and he got his fourth (and extra) Q with a third place.  Not bad for a weekend.  So he is now U-AG I, URO 1 Homespun Quinlan's Crystal Blue Snow CL1-R, CGC.  We went thru snow, heavy wind (thought the RV was going to be blown off the hill top), and showed in a dirt floored horse arena (imagine a white dog on dirt).   But it was worth it.  I'm still cleaning up all the dirt.

Terri Poirier reports that Trevor had some nice runs during the past two weekends of trials. He successfully qualified 9 out of 12 runs. He thus now has 17 QQs and 180 MACH points on his journey to MACH2.

Lynn Uram tells us that...We had a wonderful agility weekend in Edinboro, PA on December 4th-6th. Zelda picked up her first two QQ's and 54 MACH points to go along with them. This was only her second weekend in Excellent B for both Jumpers and Standard, so we are very pleased about those QQ's. Geraldo earned 23 MACH points this weekend, so he just needs 87 more points for his MACH.  I'm already looking forward to getting back in the ring with Zelda and Geraldo in January!

Nancy Ann Whitley reports that…Ben won his first agility title on Saturday, November 21, 2009.  He won his Novice title in Jumpers with Weavers at Mountaineers Kennel Club.

From Diane Ambrose…Exciting news from the Damingo brothers, Chase and Locke!!  Even though they don’t look alike, they definitely think alike!  Damingo Pedal To The Metal, OA, AXJ (Chase), finished his Excellent Standard title on December 6th at the Clarion Canine Obedience Club trial with a Second Place   The trial was the last one of 2009 for him, so he was really cutting it close!!  Chase can’t wait to see if he can get some more MACH points and double Q’s with his outstanding handlers, Elaine Mayowski and Mary Martin!  Not to be outdone by his brother, Damingo Lock And Load (Locke), finished his Novice Jumpers title with a Third Place running with me on November 29th at the Youngstown All Breed Training Club trial.  Just like his brother, Chase, the trial was the last one of 2009 for Locke.  I wonder what these brothers have in store for me in 2010!!!

Elaine Kelvington tells us that….On November 14 Sawyer qualified at the WCOTC obedience trial to receive his CDX title.  This is a first ever for us.  In 5 times of showing, Sawyer had 3 qualifying scores and a first place and a second place.  I am very excited.  Now, they tell me that we need to go on to utility!   So here we go!  Wish us good luck!

AND…Damingo Lock And Load (Locke), ran with me to earn two legs toward his Novice JWW title.  At the Beaver County Kennel Club Trial on September 13th, Locke qualified for his first leg in Novice JWW with a Third Place.  On November 21st, Locke qualified for his second leg in JWW with a First Place at the Tamarack Lake Kennel Club.

Nancy Grebur tells us that…Ranger earned his AXJ Title at the Albion show on June 29th with a 1st place .  Now he has his AXJ.  Then he earned his 1st 2 legs towards his MXJ at North Olmsted show on July 11th and 12th.  He earned his 3rd JWW leg at the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club show on Sun. July 19th.  Alex and I are very proud of our boy!  Thanks to his Aunties and all our good friends that helped us and cheered us on.

Hollybush's It's About Thyme PT NA completed her Novice Jumpers w. Weaves title at the GPGRC  trial on July 19, 2009.  Heather did a great job-running her course in 29 seconds with  a first place ribbon and her title.  We will be moving onto her obedience title work with high hopes.  Thank you Bill Herbein for all your patience and help at class.  Heather is owned and home- bred by Deborah Miller-Gurchak.

From Diane Ambrose…DAMINGO PEDAL TO THE METAL, NA, OAJ,(Chase), is in the fast lane this Summer in Agility!  Racing with his team, Mary Martin and Elaine Mayowski, Chase completed his Open Agility Jumpers title with a First Place on May 30th at the Cuyahoga Valley Golden Retriever Club Trial, a Second Place at the June 14th TRSSCGP Trial and a Second Place at the July 10th Cleveland All Breed Trial.  Also at the Cleveland All Breed Trial, on July 11th, Chase won a Third Place for his second leg in Open Standard.  He can’t wait for another Agility road trip with Mary and Elaine!!  Chase congratulates his brother, Locke, for winning six Conformation points.

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich tell us that…U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD, RE, AX, MXJ, NAP, OJP, NF, AG.I.J, NAC, NJC, OGC, RS-O, JS-O, GS-O, CL3-H, CGC, TDI “Hannah”, earned three 1st places at the GPGRC Agility Trial in Cheswick on July 17-19, and finished her Open Agility Preferred title and her Agility Excellent Jumpers Preferred title.

Terri Poirier tells us that...We did it today on the first day of the Greater St Louis Agility Club/Gateway Agility Club trial in jumpers with 10 points under time.  It is now CH MACH Saranac Bi Chance, CD, HT, OF, CGC, VCX.  I believe this may be the first biblack sheltie who is not only a VCX CH but now a MACH.  Trevor's dad is CH Saranac Playing for Keeps, ROM. (our first ASSA register of merit dog)  Maybe Bob Miller can check this out.  I want to thank Tricia Martino for helping me with running Trevor as I was learning and putting on nearly 25% of his MACH points.  Also a very special thanks to Lori Weinberg, my agility instructor, who has helped me become a better handler with a super dog.  Our real journey on Trevor's MACH began in 2006.   We probably would have earned this title a year ago if it was not for the table issues.  It is onward to MACH2. We have 9 DQS and now 8 points.

At the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Pittsburgh agility trial on July 18 Trio and Bill Herbein earned their first MACH as a team.  Going into the July 18th agility trial, Trio needed 1 point, i.e. one second under course time, in order to complete his MACH title.  This was after he and Bill missed completing the MACH on Friday the 17th  by four one-hundredths of a second (0.04 sec).  To keep the crowd, and Bill & Jackie, in suspense, Trio NQ’d on his first run of the day by jumping off the dogwalk at the end of the run. Later in the day he did get his one point by 0.44 seconds on the Jumpers With Weaves run.  He left no extra time, or effort, on the course.  Both Trio & Bill felt the spirit of MACH Allegro urging them on during the run.  Trio is now MACH Homespun Classical Style CDX, RA, CGC, TDI.  We are so proud of this boy for overcoming his worries about judges, timers, scribes, bar setters, fans, etc. to work with Bill as a team to complete his Master Agility Championship.  Next up will be that last leg for his Utility Dog obedience title.  We thank Julie Iverson for giving us the opportunity to live with and train such a great dog.  Not to get  lost in the MACH celebration for Trio, is the fact that on the same day, Trio’s brother Rondo earned a 1st place in his Excellent B Preferred Jumpers With Weaves run and at eleven years of age was only a few seconds slower than Trio.  For those of you who might wonder who Rondo is, he is better known as “Everett’s brother”.

Denise Letterman tells us that…At the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever AKC agility trials held July 17, 18, and 19 in Cheswick, Vista Dei Hector of Troy, RA, AX, MXJ, CL3-R, CL3-F, CL2-H, CL2-S, CGC "Hector" earned his MXJ title.  He took 2 fourth place wins in Standard over the weekend and 2 QQ's giving him a total of 7 towards his MACH.  He also accumulated 41 additional MACH points for a total of 167.  He now has 9 of 10 Q's toward his MX title and if I can keep my knee healthy hopefully we can earn that title in August.  Thanks for listening.

Brag from Carol DeMoss, Darla and Kyle Annonio:  At 10 months of age, Kaskade Annonio's Friendly Ghost was WB, BOS at the National Capital show in Harrisburg on July 5th for a 3 point major.

From Diane Ambrose and Joanna Fortson…DAMINGO LOCK AND LOAD(Locke) is firing out point after point this Summer with his special friend and fantastic handler, Marlana Tice.  On June 6th, he was Winners Dog at McKinley KC under Judge Sondra Joy Esporite.  At the Grand River/Ashtabula KC shows July 10-12, Locke was Winners Dog each day and Best of Winners on July 11th under Judges Leah James, David Bolus and Jacqueline Stacy.  On July 19th, Locke traveled to the Nita-Nee KC show and won Winners Dog under Judge Betsy Horn Humer.  We are very excited that Locke has won six points since April in very limited showing!!  Special thanks to Marlana for training Locke to effortlessly glide around the ring like his Uncle Marko!  Locke congratulates his brother, Chase, on completing his Agility Open Jumpers title.

Julie Iverson tells us that...Homespun went on vacation up to Canada to visit friends and to o to some dog shows.  I'm very happy to announce that Calvin is now Can Ch Homespun Casual Blues!  He and his mother Christy (Homespun Allspice Silverlicious NAJ) went WD and WB the same day and Christy took BOW for 4 points.  Calvin then was WD/BOW/BOS for 4 points and then he finished by winning WD/BOW for 3 points.

Elaine Mayowski tells us that…Kyrie (MACH4, U-AG1 Saranac Better In Black UD, RA, HT, CGC, TDI, CL2-F, CL3-R, CL2-H, CL3-S, TN-N, WV-N, NJC) earned her Rally Excellent title at the June Westmoreland Obedience Trial. Way to go my "Little Bear"  I Love you sooooo much.  Kyrie would also like to congratulate her Lhasa Apso Brother, Elijah on stepping out of retirement and running 2 NADAC agility courses.  He ran Tunnelers and Weavers.  He ran both courses complete and had a blast doing them.  Elijah will be 14 years old in September and Kyrie and I are so proud of him.  We are so blessed to have such a wonderful "Furry Family".

Terri Poirier reports a very good two day weekend trial at the Three Rivers Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Pittsburgh. Trevor qualified four out of 4 runs and earned 27 MACH points. He came 1.49 seconds short of finishing his MACH on the last jumpers course.  Thus he only now needs TWO more points. Our next trial is the Gateway Agility Club/Greater St Louis trial at the end of July.  Rachel qualified 2 out of 4 runs and earned another Ex A JWW and Ex A Standard leg. She only needs one more leg in each for these titles.

Then on Sunday, Justi made progress with her teeter and dog walk issues and picked up her 2nd Novice Standard Leg with a 2nd place finish.  The "Pink Heart Toy" that Justi won when she finished her title was given to her mother, Pinta Troese.  And the "Toy Bananas" that she won in her Standard run were given to her daddy, Everett P. Debbie Miller-Gurchak tells us that...Hollybush's It's About Thyme PT has added another title to the list that will eventually get our goal to her VCX...Heather and I made our way into the agility world and rec'd her Novice Standard title at our sheltie specialty.  Our first time out as a team was at the Youngstown All Breed trial June 5.  We now have two legs toward our Novice JWW and hope to finish that title at the Golden Retriever trial in July.  I am thrilled to be able to be running with Heather -she ROCKS!  We were pleased  to have many first place wins with excellent times.  Heather lives with Ellis, Paddy, Chuck and Debbie.

Lynn Uram tells us that...On May 30th at the Toledo Kennel Club's show in Maumee, OH, CastleGate's Seventh Heaven ("Bliss") was WB/BW under Sharon Redmer for her first two conformation points, and we're delighted that our Baby Girl is now pointed!  Bliss was shown to this exciting win by Judy Stachowski.

AND...I'm sure Chet is smiling down on us from Heaven today.  On June 28th, his Baby Boy won a four point major under June Penta at the Bushy Run Show!!!  Elaine Kelvington was at the end of the lead for Geraldo's exciting win!!  She was wearing her lucky suit, so I think that gave Geraldo "good karma" from the get go!  <G>  It was very nice to have so many of our friends there to share that joyful moment with us.  We are going to be dancing on the ceiling for days and days over this win.  Our heartfelt thanks to Elaine for her beautiful presentation of Geraldo!!  Geraldo now has 13 points/one major toward his breed championship, and he's more than half way to his agility championship too!!

Elaine Kelvington tells us that…Thursday (June 18th)  at the South Hills Kennel club show, our blue merle girl, Sharisse  (aka Kelvington's Dancing 'N Moonlite) was awarded Winner's bitch for another point. That gives her 3 points, several reserves and a major reserve.  Thanks for listening.

Go figure----- if he were only just 2 or 3 years old----------

Brags from the May 2009 Newsletter

Cathy Artis reports...At the ASSA National in Perry, Georgia, Braedy did well - despite the fact that he really worries about noises, crowding judges, and strange places.  He did Catydid Shelties proud by getting his third qualifying leg to complete his Rally Novice title.  He is now URO1 Kelvington's Braeden O'Rob Roy RN, CGC, TDI.  He is still tired and exhausted from the week and a half long trip and he only worked one day !

Lynn Uram tells us that...On May 2nd, we hit the agility jackpot at the Hamburg Agility Trial in Edinboro, PA!  Zelda finished her Excellent Jumpers title and took first place in her class as well.  I was so proud of her!!  She was flying around the course, and I really had to hustle to keep up with her.   Geraldo was not going to be outdone by his little sister!  He QQ'ed and picked up 19 MACH points on the same day that Zelda finished her AXJ!  That was his 19th QQ, and we're hoping that his 20th QQ is just around the corner!!
AND...On May 15th at the WCOTC agility trial in Delmont, PA, Zelda earned her first Master Jumpers leg and picked up 9 MACH points in the process.  As icing on the cake, she also placed 4th in the 16" Jumpers class.  That Jumpers run was only her second time ever in the Excellent B class, and it was her first time running outdoors too.  I was totally blown away by how well she did. On May 16th at the CPE agility trial in Washingtonville, OH, I ran Elsa and Geraldo in Wildcard and again in Jumpers.  I am delighted to report that we qualified on all four runs, got first place on all four runs, and finished two CPE titles---one for Elsa (CL1-F) and one for Geraldo (CL2-F).  I hadn't run Elsa myself for almost two years, so it was especially gratifying to have her Q on both of her runs with me. On the way home from the trial, there was a double rainbow on both sides of the road, and it was like driving under a rainbow archway.  I hope that was a good omen for lots of QQ's in the future.  <G>

Terri Poirier reports a decent weekend at Decatur, Al trial. Rachel finished her open jumpers with a  clean run and a first place finish. With my "Little Bear" I am sure we can achieve it.  This is very new to us so any advice is welcome. Thanks. I Love you sooooo much "Little Bear".

Ginny Schultz tells us that...Izzy, known to Rusty as "MINE", finished her CDX title at New Castle on her 6th birthday! It was the only way to justify giving her so many treats in one day while trying to get weight off of her!  She placed 2nd on Open A followed by a whole stick of String Cheese for her Birthday.

Elaine Kelvington reports that…Today (May 22) at the Trumbull Co KC, (New Castle show), Sharisse (Kelvington's Dancing 'N Moonlite) won her AOAC class, and was awarded Reserve Winner's Bitch. (4 point major , --so close).

On March 28th at the Western PA Kennel Association's Rally Trial, Elsa finished her Rally Novice title and placed third in a large Novice B class.  Our thanks to Elaine Mayowski for training Elsa and showing her to her first Rally title.  They're both Super Stars in our book!!

Cathy Artis tells us that... We went to the OTCH UKC Rally trial cluster in Harrisburg 3/28-29/09 and the Catydid boys did really well. Quincy got four Q legs (one was extra) with scores 100, 99, 98, 100; that included a first place and a fourth place.  AND the first place got him HIT for that trial, the huge rosette and streamers is almost bigger than he is !!!   This was his first time in the ring.  UKC just made their Rally program titling as of January 2009.  But most importantly, they welcomed my dear, sweet deaf boy with open arms. Kerry got two Q legs and Braedy got  three Q legs (mom messed rest up so badly we won't talk about it). AND...On April 24th at the ASSA National in Perry, GA, Geraldo took second place in the Open Blue class under Judge Dorothy Christensen. It was such a thrill for us when the judge pulled Geraldo and his handler (Judy Stachowski) out of the lineup and moved them into second place. That was our first National placement, and the fact that Geraldo is a Chet son made the moment even sweeter for us. We'll be floating around on our happy cloud for quite awhile!! <G> Geraldo's win photo will be posted on his web page as soon as it's available.

AND...On Monday Homespun Casual Blues "Calvin" was third in his 9-12 futurity class.  Then on Wednesday he was first in the 9-12 AOAC.  Competition for Winners Dog was on Friday and I was shocked when my boy was chosen for Reserve Winners Dog.  Calvin received a beautiful silver plate for his class win and a huge rosette and silver cup for his RWD.  Calvin was groomed and handled by Julie Desy and her team. At the banquet on Saturday night I was awarded a silver plate for being the breeder of the Reserve WInners Dog. It was an amazing week that I won't soon forget.

Kim Furlong tells us that...April 2009 has been a phenomenal month for Masterpiece Shelties.  First, our lovely bi black puppy finished her championship on her first birthday.  We decided  what she wanted most for her birthday was her championship.<G>  She then went on to win an AOM at the National! It is our kennel's first award of merit and we are so elated as well as grateful to Judge Guy Jeavons for appreciating Elle's quality and awarding a 12 month old puppy this honor.  Ch Belmark Elation AOM is co -owned with Julie Desy and was bred by Bella Thompson.  I think I am still in shock over what a meaningful month this has been.  It was so special to be able to enjoy our first National placement with so many club members. You are all so wonderful and supportive.  Secondly, Lindsay took first place in the largest juniors class at the National.  She did an excellent job! Congratulations to the many other club members who had terrific brags from Perry!

Kaskade Shelties did very well at the ASSA National in Perry, GA. We started out with our first Herding trail with Linda Evans qualifying with Torree for her first Herding Test (HT) leg. She herded sheep with the fastest time of 2 minutes and 22 seconds in her class of 10. Torree is co-owned with Marylou Williamson who also ran her in Novice B Jumpers with Weaves agility. Torree then qualified with Carol DeMoss in Novice Rally. Torree completed her competition for Best All Around Sheltie by showing in Breed in the Open Black Bitch Class.  Torree's son and daughter, Kasper, co-owned with Darla and Kyle Annonio, and B'Elanna, co-owned with Donna Rozeck, completed in Futurity and Breed. Kasper made the cut in Futurity and won 1st place in the Breed class. Charm qualified in Excellent Jumpers with Weaves. We were all very proud of all of our shelties who completed in Herding, Agility, Rally and Breed.

Terri Poirier is pleased to report a good outing at the ASSA Sheltie Nationals. Rachel completed her open standard title with a clean run and a first place. She is now Saranac Enduring Promise, OA, NAJ. Trevor qualified in jumpers. He only needs 52 more MACH points!

Cathy Artis tells us that... At the ASSA National in Perry, Georgia, Braedy did well - despite the fact that he worries over noises, crowding judges, and strange places.  He did Catydid Shelties proud on April 20 when he earned his third qualifying leg to complete his RN, Rally Novice title.   This makes him URO1 Kelvington's Braeden O'Rob Roy RN, CGC, TDI.  He is still exhausted (so is mom) after the week and a half trip and he only worked one day of it !

Our Roving Reporter, Everett P Troese, aka Ch Patented Emprise Forevermore took a class second at the ASSA National Specialty in Perry Georgia in the Veteran Dogs Class.  Everett is owned by Diane Troese and Katie Grohowalski and was handled beautifully by Katie.  We are so proud of them both !

Brags from the March 2009 Newsletter

Terri Poirier reports at this past weekend's Gateway Agility Club trial, Rachel (Saranac Enduring Promise, NA, NAJ, in her first full weekend in open, qualified 4 out of 6 runs for two open standard legs and two open jumpers legs with three first places and one second place.  Her brother Trevor also ran very well. However, his human mom handler was not on her game. Trevor ended up earning some MACH points to bring his final number down to 67 more points.   This was the first time I had to run both an open and excellent dog. This was a challenge with the many ring conflicts.  Looking forward to having both dogs in excellent.

Cathy Artis tell us that... We went to the OTCH Rally trial cluster in Harrisburg 3/28-29/09 and the Catydid boys did really well.

Quincy got four Q legs (one was extra) with scores: 100, 99, 98, 100; that included a first place and a fourth place. The first place got him HIT for that trial, and the rosette with streamers is almost bigger than he is !!! That was his first time in the ring. UKC just made their Rally program titling as of January 2009. But most importantly they welcomed my dear, sweet deaf boy with open arms.

Kerry got two Q legs and Braedy got three Q legs (mom messed up big time, but we won't go into that).

So Quincy and Braedy earned their URO1 titles (equivalent of AKC's Rally Novice). And they gave pretty nice title rosettes also. See picture to right.

Lynn Uram tells us that...At the Butler Dog Training Association's agility trial on March 7th and 8th, Zelda (CastleGate's Mercy Me NAJ) competed in Open Jumpers, and she qualified and placed first in her class on both Saturday and Sunday.  She ran fast and happy, and we're very proud of our baby girl.

AND...Geraldo, Zelda, and I had an incredibly successful weekend at the Youngstown All Breed Training Club's agility trial in Washingtonville, OH on March 13th-15th.  Geraldo QQ'ed ALL THREE DAYS and picked up 44 MACH points to boot.  He now has 18 QQ's and 281 MACH points.  Zelda was entered in Open Jumpers, and she had a great trial too.  On Friday, she finished her Open Jumpers title with another first placement, and on Sunday, she earned her first Excellent A Jumpers leg with a second place finish.  After our recent loss, we really needed a "feel good" weekend like this one!

Denise Letterman tells us that... At the CPE agility trials in Washingtonville, OH on March 7th and 8th, Vista Dei Hector of Troy RN, NA, OAJ, CTL2-R, CTL2-F, CTL2-H, CGC "Hector", had 8 clean runs out of 8 events all for 1st place.  Hector received a "Perfect Weekend" ribbon for his runs.

AND...At the same CPE agility trials in Washingtonville, OH on March 7th and 8th, Homespun Steel City Dream RA, NA, OAJ, CTL2-R, CTL2-F, CTL2-H, CGC "Troy", had 8 clean runs out of 8 events.  Troy earned three 1st place, one 2nd place, three 3rd place, and one 4th place wins.  Troy also received a "Perfect Weekend" ribbon for his runs.  Wow, two Perfect Weekend ribbons in one weekend - that was 16 runs in two days.

AND...At the YABTC AKC agility trials in Washingtonville, OH on March 13, 14, and 15, Vista Dei Hector of Troy RN, NA, OAJ, CTL2-R, CTL2-F, CTL2-H, CGC "Hector", had 4 Q's out of 6 events including two 1st place and a 3rd place.  On Friday, March 13th, Hector earned his open standard (OA) title and on Saturday, March 14th, he earned his JWW Excellent A (AXJ) title.

AND...At the YABTC AKC agility trials in Washingtonville, OH on March 13, 14, and 15, Homespun Steel City Dream RA, NA, OAJ, CTL2-R, CTL2-F, CTL2-H, CGC "Troy", had 6 Q's out of 6 events for a perfect weekend.  Troy earned two 1st place, two 2nd place, and one 4th place wins.  On Friday, March 13th, Troy earned his open standard (OA) title and on Saturday, March 14th, he earned his JWW Excellent A (AXJ) title.  We had two great weekends and as always, big brother Caesar was there to cheer Troy and Hector on.  I'm so pround of my boys.  Thanks for letting me brag.

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich tell us that…U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD, RE, AX, MXJ, NJP, NF, AG.I.J, NAC, NJC, OGC, RS-O, JS-O, GS-O, CL3-H, CGC, TDI “Hannah”, earned three 1st places at the YABTC trial in Washingtonville March 13-15, to finish her Open Jumper Preferred title.

Elaine Kelvington tells us that...On Friday, at the Youngstown All Breed Agility Trials  (Washingtonville), this past weekend, Sawyer got an Open Standard leg with a first place.  On Saturday, Sawyer got an open jumps with weaves leg with a second place.  Third time's the charm.  On Sunday, Sawyer double qued to get another leg and first place in Open Standard and another leg and 2nd place in jumps with weaves.  That finished his Open Standard Agility Title.  Thanks for listening.

From Diane Ambrose…The Damingo brothers, Damingo Pedal to the Metal (Chase) and Damingo Lock and Load (Locke) had a super day at the CPE Agility Trial in Washingtonville on March 7th. Running with me, Locke won a second place in Standard and qualified in Colors. As usual, Chase ran like a pro with his fantastic handlers, Elaine Mayowski and Mary Martin, and won two first places and a fourth place in Jackpot, Standard and Colors.  The brothers will debut in AKC Agility in April. Chase and Locke and I were especially excited to have our own cheering section led by their breeder, Joanna Fortson and Locke's conformation handler, Marlana Tice, who had a great day running her Justi.

Kasper Kaskade Annonio's Friendly Ghost was RWD at the Baltimore Specialty from the puppy class at the age of 6 1/2 months. He was bred by Carol DeMoss and MaryLou Williamson and is owned by Darla and Kyle Annonio and Carol DeMoss.

Debbie and Paul Hull...Are proud to announce that their daughter, Alyssa and her puppy, Hullston Aigner aka Anya are the first graduates of Golden Triangle Obedience Training Club’s AKC STAR Puppy class.  STAR which stands for Socialization*Training*Activity*Responsibility is a new program instituted by AKC designed to teach early communication between owners and their puppies.  Owners and dogs are tested throughout the 6 week course on 20 items including Owner Behaviors - showing proof of current vaccinations and outlining a plan for daily exercise and play;  Puppy Behaviors – free of aggression towards other people and dogs, allowance of grooming;  Pre-CGC Behaviors – sit, come and down.  Upon completion of the course and passing the test, participants receive a certificate and an AKC STAR Puppy Medal.  Alyssa plans to continue with Anya’s training and obtain her CGC.  This is the first puppy she has trained on her own and we applaud her efforts and success.

Brags from the February 2009 Newsletter

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich tell us that…At the TRSSCGP Specialty January 31 – February 1, Homespun Cubbie Blue “Addisyn” made her debut in the dog show world.  Addy earned the first two legs of her Rally Novice title, placing 4th on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday.  Not too shabby for a puppy with a big Addytude who’s not quite 10 months old.

AND…At the same show, U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD, RA, AX, MXJ, NJP, NF, AG.I.J, NAC, NJC, OGC, RS-O, JS-O, GS-O, CL3-H, CGC, TDI “Hannah”, placed 3rd on Saturday to finish her Rally Excellent title, and had a run for fun on Sunday picking up another 3rd place.

Denise Letterman tells us that...At the Sheltie Specialty trials in Washington, PA on January 31 and February 1, 2009, Vista Dei Hector of Troy NA, OAJ, CL2-R, CL2-H, CL2-F, CGC "Hector" competed in rally obedience.  On Saturday, Hector had a perfect score of 100 in Novice B for first place which completed his RN title.  On Sunday, Hector moved up to Rally Advance B and earned a score of 96 for second place and his first leg for his RA title.  I am so proud of all 3 of my boys!

Lynn Uram tells us that...At the TRSSCGP Specialties on January 31st and February 1st, Elsa competed in the Rally Novice ring for the first time, and she qualified on both days!!  On Sunday, she also placed third in the class!  Elsa was trained in Rally and shown at the Specialty by Elaine Mayowski.  As always, we're very grateful to Elaine for all of the wonderful things that she achieves with Elsa.

Our Super Bowl Team is Here !! Team owners Lindsay and Maureen Spitznogle welcomed their litter of two boys - Hines and Heath, and two girls - Paula and Maulu, into the world on Sunday February 1 shortly before the Super Bowl kickoff. Head Coach Julie Iverson and her Assistant Coaches Lynn Uram, Cathy Harvey, Joanna Fortson and Lyn Krivanek had an awesome game plan put together and the entire team arrived healthy and in big game shape. The Quarterback - Ch Elora Mastequila - "Andre" and his favorite Wide Receiver - Ch Jade Mist Anistar Andante - "Annie" made all the big plays to create this (hopefully) Championship litter !

Terri Poirier is pleased to report that at the Tricounty Agility Trial, Rachel (Saranac Enduring Promise) debut for her first shows. She earned her first leg in Novice Standard with a 100 score and a first place with 19 seconds under time. In the other runs, I mishandled her in the box where she did a wrong course in jumpers for her only error on both days. She ran for 26 seconds even with the wrong course.  In the other standard run, I lost my connection with her and did not realize that she had not successfully done the weaves. Other than a weave failure she was clean and again ran 17 seconds under time.  This was a good beginning for Rachel. I am excited about how much fun she will be to run.

AND...At the same trial, Trevor earned another DQ (now making 25 DQ) and only needs 112 more MACH points…

Terri Poirier reports a great weekend at the Decatur agility trial with 8 out of 12 qualifying runs.  Rachel, (Saranac Enduring Promise) completed both novice agility trials with five first place finishes. She was also way under time in all but one run. Her first time in open standard was also a good run with a refusal at the weave entry and then I failed to stay connected with her when she was finishing the weaves. I pulled her out and did not complete them. However, I was very pleased with her overall performance.

AND...Trevor (CH Saranac Bi Chance, CD, HT, MX, MXJ, OF) earned another DQ (to make 26), a jumpers leg and now only needs 81 MACH points!!

Barb Westerman of Gypsy Shelties is pleased to report that my blue girl "Windi" (Karefree Gypsy Wind) had a WONDERFUL first AKC agility trial weekend!  Windi was entered in Novice JWW & Standard at the agility trial in Grove City, Ohio.  We Q'd on 3 of her 4 runs, with two 1sts on her JWW's and a 2nd in Standard!

Cathy Artis tell us that... At our TRSSCGP specialty shows on Jan 31 and Feb 1, Catydid did most of themselves proud. Braedy (Kelvington's Braeden O' Rob Roy CGC, TDI) on Saturday qualified in obedience Novice with first place and his first leg. On same day he qualified in rally Novice with a score of 100 for second place and his first leg. Then on Sunday he qualified again in rally Novice with fourth place for his second leg. Quincy had a party and thought everyone came to see him, made many new friends, and got a chance to work out some.

Brags from the January 2009 Newsletter

Marlana Tice tells us that...Emprise Just Three Wishes, OAJ, "Justi" finished her CD title (in 3 trials) at the Medina Kennel Club Trial on December 12, 2008 at the IX Center in Cleveland.  Justi received a score of 193 1/2 and had to compete in a "run-off" for 4th place.  Unfortunately she did not win the    run-off and therefore ended up in 5th place with an entry of over 30 dogs in Novice B.  Diane Troese (co-owner/breeder) and I are so proud of the "little princess" and this is the 3rd judge to comment "she is so cute".  Being "10 hairs over 13 inches" helps rack up the bonus points with judges!

Lynn Uram tells us that...On 12/27/08, the CastleGate shelties attended a CPE agility trial in Washingtonville, OH, and they had a great time!   Zelda (CastleGate's Mercy Me) Q'ed and placed on two of her three runs.  As an added bonus, the show photographer got a picture of her doing the "happy dance" that she does on her hind legs at the end of each run.

AND...Chet (Am/Can CH Kelbren Blue Flame CD, RN, NAJ, AJP, CGC, CTL1-S, CTL1-F) Q'ed and got first place on both of his runs!!  It was such a joy to be on the course with him again.  He hasn't run agility in almost a year, and I was amazed at how quickly he got back into the groove of things.  His Jumpers Q at this show finished another CPE title for him.

AND...Geraldo (CastleGate's Daily News MX, MXJ, CGC, CL2-S, CL2-R) Q'ed and placed on three of his four runs.  He heads back to the conformation ring soon, so it was nice to end his agility year on such a high note!   It was a long day (12.5 hours at the show site plus three hours of travel) but oh so worth it!!

AND...Zelda (CastleGate's Mercy Me) started out the New Year with a big bang!!  On January 3, 2009, she finished her Novice Jumpers with Weaves title at the Erie Kennel Club's agility trial in Edinboro, PA.  In addition to finishing her title, she also placed first in the 16" Novice class.  Geraldo had a great day too.  He earned his 15th QQ at that show.  Five more to go!!

Denise Letterman tells us that...At the CPE trials in Washingtonville, OH on December 27th and 28th, Vista Dei Hector of Troy NA, OAJ, CTL2-R, CTL2-F, CTL1-H, CGC "Hector", had 6 clean runs out of 6 events.  Hector had 5 runs at level 3 and 1 run at level 2; earned five 1st places and one 2nd place; and finished his CTL2-H title.

AND...At the CPE trials in Washingtonville, OH on December 27th and 28th, Homespun Steel City Dream RA, NA, OAJ, CTL2-R, CTL2-F, CTL1-H, CGC "Troy", had 5 clean runs out of 6 events (We need to work on those dark tunnels).  Troy had 5 runs at level 3 and 1 run at level 2; earned one 1st place, two 2nd places, and two 3rd places; and finished his CTL2-H title.

This was our first year to run in agility and we had a great year.  Our first CPE trial was in May and since then Hector and Troy each earned 6 CPE titles.  Hector accomplished his titles with fifteen 1st places and two 2nd places.  Troy accomplished his titles with five 1st places, six 2nd places, four 3rd places, and two 4th places.  Our first AKC trial was in June and since then Hector and Troy each earned 3 titles.  Hector accomplished his titles with eight 1st places, and one 2nd place.  Troy accomplished his titles with five 1st places, two 2nd places, one 3rd place, and one 4th place.  Not to leave out my third sheltie, Pontifex Maximus J Caesar CD, RE, CGC "Caesar", earned his CD in April.  It has been a great year for 'the boys' and I am looking forward to even greater things in 2009

From Diane Ambrose:  The Damingo brothers, Damingo Pedal to the Metal (Chase) and Damingo Lock and Load (Locke) ran in their first Agility events on Sunday, December 14th at the CPE Trial in Washingtonville.  They had an awesome day!!  Expertly handled by Elaine Mayowski and Mary Martin, Chase won a second place in the Standard class and a first place in the Wildcard class.  Locke and I ran our first Agility Jumpers course together and he took a second place with no faults.  If those wins weren’t exciting enough, Mary and Elaine performed some more magic with Chase on December 27th in Washingtonville.  Running with Mary, Chase won a first place in Jackpot.  Mary and Elaine each ran him in a Standard class and he won a first place and a second place to complete his Standard CPE Level 1 title!  As an added attraction, Elaine took him thru the Jumpers class with a second place. If I wasn’t hooked on Agility before, I certainly am now!!  Chase and Locke and I are very grateful to Mary and Elaine for their perseverance in working with Chase (he has a mind of his own!) and for their patience with me as a novice Agility handler when I try to do everything with an obedience mindset!  And special thanks and love to Joanna Fortson for breeding those beautiful Damingo brothers with personality plus!

Gloria Hansen tells us that...Out of the clear blue, emails came in that we have a new Champion!!! Brook who is now CH MacNel's Olympic Gold finished at the Pasco Florida Kennel Club show on Sunday, Jan.18th.  Brook is the dam of our lovely twosome, CH Belaire's Town N Country, "Lainey" and our Specialty winner, "Lola", Belaire's A little Bit Country who is almost finished. Brook finished with a 3pt major, BOS win.  We Congratulate her and miss her very much!

Elaine Kelvington tells us that...Today, January 24th, at the  Erie Kennel Club show, Sharisse aka Kelvington's Dancing 'N Moonlite was Winner's Bitch and BOS for her first 2 points.   She is Solomon's (CH Kelvington's Once 'N A Blue Moon) blue merle litter mate and is the third puppy from that litter that has points!   Sharisse's dam is CH Kelvington's Elec Tri Fying aka "Sony "and her sire is CH Kelbren Blue Flame  CD, RN, AJP, NAJ  aka "Chet", owned by Lynn Uram.  Thanks for listening!

Julie Iverson tells us that...Saturday January 24th in Erie, "Calvin" Homespun Casual Blues (Can Ch Dundee Sharrow Santa Cruz x Homespun Allspice Silverlicious NAJ) was WD/BW for 2 points under Judge Judy Adams.  This is only his third show weekend and I'm just thrilled at how he takes everything in stride.  The show sites have been very noisy but it doesn't seem to bother him at all.  He is a very happy puppy.  He took his first point under Judge Tom Coen at Tallmadge Jan 3 and the next day was reserve under Judge Nioma Coen.  He is 8 months old today.  Thanks for letting me brag.
