She needs 1 more point to earn her VCX.

Elaine Kelvington tells us that…The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Baltimore held a herding testing trial at Berryville, VA on July 1.   We are very happy to report that Sawyer aka CH Kelvington's Talisman  CDX, RE, AX, AXJ and Solomon aka CH Kelvington's Once 'N A Blue Moon both qualified to get their first HT legs.

Nancy Ann Whitley tells us that...Sterling and Ben has received new titles in Rally.  Sterling has received his Rally Excellent title on June 11th at Westmoreland County Obedience Training Trial.

AND...Ben also received his Rally Advanced title on June 11th at Westmoreland County Obedience Training Trial.

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich are happy to report that...at the WCOTC Rally Trials on June 11th and 12th in Delmont, Homespun Cubbie Blue RA "Addisyn", finished her Rally Excellent title.  One of the legs was a 2nd place.

Nancy Grebur tells us that...Annika-my blue merle Sheltie earned her 3rd leg in Rally Novice at the Greene County fairgrounds show in Waynesburg, PA on Friday-June 25,2010.  That was her title.  She did great with a 3rd place.  I was so proud of her because that was 3 legs in a row for her and that was her 1st time in the ring.

From Barb Westerman...I'm thrilled to report that Windi finished her Novice Standard title today at the TRSSCGP trial in Cheswick, PA with a 1st place!  She is now Karefree Gypsy Wind NA NAJ.   Tomorrow we'll be running in both Open JWW & Open Standard!

Terri Poirier reports a very good weekend at the TRSSCGP trial in Pittsburgh with 7 out of 8 qualifying runs.  Trevor got two more QQs and 40 MACH pts. He now only needs 370  points for MACH2. He has 27 QQ.  Racehl earned her 7th MX leg and another QQ giving her 3 QQ and an additional 26 MACH points for a total of 190 MACH points.

We are proud to announce the first Shetland Sheepdog Grand Champion is GR Ch Suntera City Life CC "Austin".  This is a new title that began mid May 2010. Austin will go down in the history books as being the first Gr. Ch Shetland Sheepdog. Austin is owned by Roe and Ed George. He is being shown by the Sunway Presentation Team, Nick Joines and Joel McCarty. He was bred by Colleen Gentilcore.

Julie Iverson tells us that...Homespun had a good weekend at the South Hills and Mountaineer KC shows.  On Thursday 6/24 "Calvin"  BISS Am/Can Ch Homespun Casual Blues HT was BOB under Judy Adams, Friday he was again BOB under June Penta and went on to a Group 2 under Mrs. Robert Smith.  On Saturday he was BOB under Paul Willhauck who was also the group judge and gave him a  Group 3 under.  I handled him to one of his BOB and Katie Grohowalski took him to the rest of his wins.  Thank you Katie for doing such a wonderful job with Calvin.  He just turned two the end of May and I can't believe how much he's accomplished.

Legacies Baretta Bobcat "Bullet" attained his AKC championship on June 26th. He finished with three 4 point majors and a BOB over specials....did not go to the breed ring as his handler had to get home to whelp a bitch. Bullet is my second homebred champion and my favorite dog so he will be on the summer 2011 cover of Sheltie International, a promise I made to myself since he is the hardest dog I own to show. Many thanks to Rusty, Deb, and Linda for evaluating this boy for me as a puppy and helping me decide to keep him. His sister, Legacies Back In Black "Bibs", took a 3 point major reserve her first show out in over two years as she was home being a mom. The same day her son took his first 2 points!   Veronica Covatch

Elaine Kelvington tells us that…At the South Hills Kennel Club show on June 24, our puppy,  Suri, aka Kelvington's Circle O' Life was reserve winner's bitch.  The next day,  at the Mountaineer Kennel Club show, her litter mate ,Semper aka Kelviington's Celebration O'Life was reserve winner's dog.  The puppies are out of   Sony, aka CH Kelvington's Elec Tri Fying and  Brett, CH Whiteoaks Dealer's Choice II.  Sharisse, aka Kelvington's  Dancing 'N Moonlite was also reserve winner's bitch on June 25 at the Mountaineer Kennel Club show and the next day, June 26 at the South Hills Kennel club show.

Legacies Back In Black, my very plain bi black girl who entertained everyone in Pitts. a few years ago at 11 months old with her over the top happy tail (and butt) wagging, is now back out in the ring. She picked up a 3 point major reserve her first show out and on July 3 rd took WB / BOS for her first AKC points. Yes...she is still wagging that tail and kissing the judges!  Veronica Covatch

Legacies Pittsburg's Steel Curtain earned 2 points taking WD and BOW at his third show and first since coming out of the puppy class. He followed that with a reserve the next show. He is sired by Apple Acres Cub Cadet out of Legacies Back In Black. This young male has now been bought back by me and will be out until finshed.  Veronica Covatch

Diane Troese tells us that…Rondo's brother EVERETT is now BISS CH Patented Emprise Forevermore.  He added the BISS to his name by winning Best Of Breed at the Shetland Sheepdog Club of Western New York show in June under Rick Thompson.  The next day under Charlotte Tull he was BOS.  Everett is 12 years old and went on to his Best In Specialty Show from the 12 and over veteran class.  He is co-owned and handled beautifully by Katie Grohowalski who always said they were going to do it!  Everett had such a wonderful time that the next day, while we were grooming the "other dogs" for their classes, he refused to be left in the expen and ended up either underfoot or on the grooming table so he was "in the action" till it was his turn to get groomed.

Brags from the June 2010 Newsletter

Lynn Uram tells us that...On May 20th, CastleGate's Seventh Heaven (Bliss) won Best of Breed from the Open AOAC Class under Jack Ireland in Marietta, Ohio.  That was Bliss' first BOB and our first homebred BOB, so it was an extra special win for us.  A huge thank you to Judy Stachowski for presenting Bliss so beautifully at this show!

Elaine Kelvington tells us that...Today, May 27, 2010, Kelvington's Dancing 'N Moonlite aka  "Sharisse" our blue merle girl, was Winner's Bitch for a major at the Laurel Highlands Kennel Association's Show.  That gives her 7 points, one major and several reserves/major reserves. As always, Sharisse was Breeder/owner handled.

Marlana Tice tells us that…After celebrating his 8th Birthday on Thursday 5/27/10, CH Damingo Marksman's Hi Speed Bullet, OA, OAJ, "Marko" was entered in the Veteran's Class for three out of the five days at the Memorial Day Cluster in New Castle, PA. Marko won the Veteran's Class all three days. But, on Memorial Day, Marko went on to take Best of Breed over top ranked professionally handled specials under judge Colonel Joe B. Purkhiser. Then to add icing to his birthday cake, Marko went on to take a Group 2 under the same judge. In limited showing, this Best of Breed has brought his career total to 40 Best of Breeds. I received many nice compliments from the judge during the photo shoots, mainly the question as to why Marko is in a Veteran's Class and not being shown as a Special. Marko's Breeder and Co-Owner, Joanna Fortson was there to cheer him on and screamed the loudest, only to deafen some of the other club members that were there to cheer Marko on. It was so nice having a lot of the club members there to share in my special day with my "special boy" and cheer us on......Thank you. Marko who has been feeling left out, as I have been traveling with Justi to agility trials, showed his heart out even in the heat. I now understand the meaning of Marko's "true showmanship" and the old saying "you can take the dog out of the show, but you can't take the show out of the dog".

Bill Herbein writes -- While his 'brother' Trio was Double Q'ing in the regular agility classes at the Mountaineer Kennel Club trials in Morgantown, twelve year old Rondo -- the true brother of the infamous Everrett, was completing his Master Jumpers Preferred #5 with a third place finish.  As long as Rondo looks like he is smiling while competing he will continue to run in Jumpers with Weaves. Pete & Yvette Grandillo Jr. are very proud to announce that…  Cammi, Dawson, and Bryce competed at the Puli Club of America agility trial in Zanesville, Ohio over the first weekend in March.  It was a new facility that none of the dogs had ever competed on.  Furthermore, this was only Bryce’s second agility trial, and yet another new surface, equipment, sights, sounds, etc.  Bryce overcame the new environment with a 1st place finish in Nov B Jumpers and a 1st place finish in Nov B Standard.  These qualifying runs earned him both his Novice Jumpers Title and his Novice Standard Title.  Cammi responded by earning four qualifying 1st place finishes in Exc B P Jumpers and Exc A P Standard.  Dawson couldn’t let anyone do any better than him.  Dawson competing in Exc B Jww / Standard qualified in all four runs with a 4th in Standard and a 3rd in Jumpers (out of 38 entries).  For the entire family, 10 qualifying runs out of 12 earned the kids another McDonalds.  The two hour trip home, not a peep was to be heard, only rapid paw movement from their dreams, and an occasional whimper in their doggie dreams.

Pete & Peggy Grandillo Sr. are very proud to announce that… Molly competed at the Splash N Dash TDAA agility trial the last weekend in February.  For the entire weekend, Molly had 9 runs (5 in standard and 4 in games).  Of the 9 runs, Molly qualified in 6 runs.  In Games on Saturday, Molly qualified and earned two 2nd Place finishes, one in CopyCat and one in Bowling.  This also earned Molly her Games TG1 title.  Also on Saturday, Molly had three standard runs in Beginner’s Agility.  Molly earned two 1st place finishes and one 2nd place finish resulting in her Beginner’s Agility Title.  In Games on Sunday, Molly moved-up into TG2 or Intermediate Games and continued her success with Chutes & Ladders and Football.  In both, Molly qualified with 1st place finishes.  Also on Sunday, in Intermediate Standard Agility, Molly did not qualify in either run, but did well enough to earn a 2nd and 3rd place finish.  Molly is so strutting her accomplishments in front of Cammi, Dawson, and Bryce (her fur cousins).

To be continued… Bryce and Molly get to compete head-to-head in AKC Open Agility Standard and Jumpers in their next trial.  There will be no living with the winner!

Lynn Uram tells us that...On March 14th at the Butler Dog Training Club's agility trial in Edinboro, PA, Zelda finished her MX title with a glorious Standard run!! I expect her in season any day now, and I'm thrilled that she finished her MX and her MXJ prior to taking time off for motherhood.  Zelda also earned her first Master FAST leg with a third placement at that trial.   I hope someday that Zelda follows in her litter brother's footsteps and becomes a dual champion too!

Lynn Uram tells us that...On March 6, 2010, at the Puli Club's agility trial in Zanesville, OH, Geraldo became CH MACH CastleGate's Daily News OF.  It's truly a dream come true for me to have a homebred dual champion.  Geraldo has been my pride and joy from the moment he was born, and he's a joy to live with and to train.  We went into that trial weekend needing just three points to finish our agility championship, and Geraldo got down to business on our first run of the weekend and put those three points (plus a few points to spare) to bed quickly.  I had been anticipating that moment for such a long time, and it felt even better than I thought it would!!    When Geraldo and I first started agility three years ago, he was a green agility dog, and I was a novice agility handler as well.  Geraldo has been very forgiving of my many mistakes on the journey to our MACH, and I love him dearly for his patience and his perseverance.  He is my "do it all" dog, and I'm looking forward to doing some herding and some obedience work with him in the future.   If you see an unidentified object floating around in the sky anytime soon, it's probably me still floating around on my Happy Cloud!!

Marlana Tice reports that...At the Butler Dog Training Association trial at Edinboro on March 13th, Emprise Just Three Wishes, AXJ, OA, CD, "Justi" earned her 5th MXJ Leg with a 4th place finish and 10 MACH points.  Then she earned her 1st Excellent Standard Leg with a first place finish and 18 seconds under time.  The following weekend at the Youngstown All Breed Training Club/Westmoreland County Obedience Club trials at Washingtonville, OH, Justi earned 3 more MXJ legs and 29 more MACH points.  She also completed her Excellent Standard Title (AX) with 2 more 1st place legs averaging 20 seconds under time on the standard course.  Justi has 8 MXJ legs with 125 MACH points.  I look forward to her standard legs now counting toward MACH points and Double Q's !!!!

Veronica Covatch tells us that...Legacies Baretta Bobact ....... Bullet took a 4 point major reserve on 1-30-10, another reserve on 2-19-10, then a 4 point major win on 2-20-10, all under breeder judges! Handled expertly by Sheila Monks. With two pointed daughters from a litter of three pups we look forward to this being a good year for this beautiful boy and his girls!

Lynn Uram tells us that...At the Olean Kennel Club's agility trial on February 5th & 6th in Edinboro, PA, Zelda earned her 7th MX leg, her 6th QQ, and 20 MACH points.  At the same trial, Geraldo and I shaved another 10 points off the points he needs for his MACH.  We just need 15 additional points for his MACH, and I can't wait to take that victory lap with my baby boy!!

My blue merle girl- Annika- has completed her Therapy dog observations and now has her therapy dog certification through Therapy Dogs Incorporated. She has her CGC and TDInc. She is doing very well and loves it. I'm so proud of her. She is busy now doing visits, obedience, Rally and agility. Proud mom-Nancy Grebur

Brags from the January 2010 Newsletter

Lynn Uram tells us that...After five weeks off from trialing and training classes, I was expecting our first agility trial of 2010 to be a free for all.  Geraldo and Zelda were raring to go, and we had a fantastic weekend both in and out of the agility ring at the Erie Kennel Club's trial in snowy Edinboro, PA. Zelda earned 2 QQ's, 2 MX legs, and 65 MACH points this weekend.  She was fast and focused on every run, and she Q'ed on five of her six runs.  My Baby Girl now has 4 QQ's and 200 MACH points.  Geraldo earned 28 MACH points, one QQ, his second Excellent Fast leg and his first ever Triple Q at that trial!! He just needs 59 more points for his MACH.  <G>

AND...At the BCSA agility trial in Edinboro, PA on January 15-17, Geraldo and Zelda had another nice weekend!  Zelda earned 29 MACH points, her 5th QQ, and her second Excellent FAST leg (with a first placement).  Geraldo picked up 24 MACH points and his 31st QQ.  We're in the homestretch for Geraldo's MACH!!  He just needs 35 more MACH points now!!

AND...At the APOTC Agility Trial in Edinboro, PA on January 22-24, Zelda finished her Excellent FAST (XF) title, earned her 6th MX leg, and picked up 17 additional MACH points.  Although Geraldo and I weren't running in sync that weekend, we did still manage to shave an additional 10 points off of what he needs to finish his MACH---25 more points to go!  <G>

Peter & Yvette Grandillo Jr. are VERY proud to announce: (Picture to right) Suntera Bryce Grandillo, call name Bryce, made his debut at the Altoona Area Kennel Association agility trial on January 23rd and 24th at the Penn State Ag Center.  This was an especially difficult debut because Bryce had only run on grass or rubber matting whereas the Ag Center was packed dirt and saw dust.  Plus, the Ag Center offered all new sites and smells.  While waiting in line for Bryce’s first run, Bryce watched each dog intently before him like he always does as a spectator.  Then, to Bryce’s surprise, it was show time.  You could tell, that despite the warm-ups, Bryce thought it was only training time and/or spectator time.  Little did he know that he was going to compete.  Bryce, with all the enthusiasm of a 21 month old puppy roared off the start line and around the course in under 26 seconds.  All the stress of an agility first run was over in fewer than 26 resulting in a score of 90 and a 2nd place finish.  Bryce went on to finish the trial with 4 qualifying runs out of 4.  Bryce earned two 1st place finishes and two 2nd place finishes.  What a great first weekend for the little guy.  You better believe Bryce is letting Cammi and Dawson (his older siblings) know that he started off better than they did! Bryce even made sure he got a bigger piece of ice cream than his siblings during treat time at the PSU Creamery.  Then again, I don’t think anyone expected Bryce to try to take such a big chunk.  (The sight of seeing him get chilled by the ice cream was hilarious!  Whiskers shivered and all).  Thanks for reading…

And… Suntera Cammi Grandillo, call name Cammi, also competed at the same trial as Bryce above.  Cammi earned four 1st place finishes in Open P Std, Exc A P Std, Exc A P Jww, and Exc B P Jww.  Cammi also earned title in Open P Standard and Exc A P titles.

And… Suntera Dawson Grandillo, call name Dawson, also competed at the same trial as Bryce and Cammi above.  Dawson did extremely well earning two 1st place finishes, one in Exc B Standard and one in Exc B Jww.  Dawson also earned a 2nd place finish in Exc B Jww.  For the entire weekend, the Cammi, Dawson, and Bryce went 11 for 12, placing in each round that they ran.  Thanks for reading…

Marlana Tice reports that...Emprise Just Three Wishes, AXJ, OA, CD, "Justi" earned her Open Standard Agility Title on 1/9/10 at the Erie Kennel Club Trial in Edinboro with a Clean 1st Place run and 20 Seconds under time.  Then on 1/23/10, in Edinboro, Justi earned her 4th MXJ leg with a 2nd Place finish and 19 more MACH points.

Julie Iverson tells us that...Homespun has been busy the last 2 months.  In December at the Cleveland Specialty Calvin took the breed and then went on to take a Group 2.  His new title is BISS Am/Can Ch Homespun Casual Blues.  He then went to Hamburg Jan 15, 16 and 17th and was BOB all three days.  His mother Christy was WB and BOB on Jan 17 to bring her up to 11 points and both majors.  This past weekend, at West Friendship, MD, Christy was WB/BOS and BOB over specials to earn 2 more points with Calvin going BOS.  The next day Christy again was WB/BOW and BOB over specials to finish and then went on to win a Group 1 for 4 points!  Calvin was BOS again.  Sunday the roles were reversed and Calvin was BOB and Christy was BOS.  It was a clean sweep weekend for the mother and son team.  Christy and Calvin were beautifully presented by Katie Grohowalski.  Christy won her first 5 point specialty major with Lindsay Spitznogle.  You girls are just awesome.  Thank you for everything you've done.  Christy is now Ch Homespun Allspice Silverlicious NAJ.
