Catydid Shelties is happy to announce that... Quincy  (Homespun Quinlan's Crystal Blue Snow) is home to join the family !  We have never had so many boys around the house at once, but Kerry and Braedy are taking to him well.  He is just such a happy fellow it's a joy to be with him.  Prepare for lots of "pass the puppy" at meetings and events to come. (Picture on right)

She also got 1st place in both classes!!  She has also earned RN, RA, CGC & TDI. By the way, Lyndi is the Three Rivers rescue who was runnung around with a broken leg 3 years ago.  Thanks to Linda Urbanek for rescuing her.

Hollybush Shelties Debbie Miller-Gurchak tells us that... Hats off to Lynn Uram for making time with Ellis! Shamont's Paden Blu CD RN and Lynn sprouted wings as they attacked the JWW course at our specialty! After taking off a year to tweak training skills we are thrilled with his performance of Novice B - 16 inch - JWW 1st place on Saturday with a time of 26.25 seconds and shocking us all with a 1st place on Sunday with a time of 20.25 seconds! My time has been well-spent training with Bill Herbein with our other sheltie, Paddy..and transferring his gentle techniques. Thanks to all our performance friends helpful hints ..Pete,Walt, Mary and Elaine have inspired me ..... PS..Keep your eyes on Lynn!

Elaine and Dave Kelvington are so excited that at the Saturday, New Castle show,  "Sony" became CH. Ch Patented Emprise Forevermore (aka The Roving Reporter Everett P Troese and co-owned by Diane Troese and Katie Grohowalski) has had a fun early spring starting at the ASSA National Specialty in Colorado where he was 3rd in Veterans Dogs, handled by Lindsay Spitznogle

Terri Poirier had a great weekend at the Huntsville agility trail. Trevor (CH Saranac Bi Chance, CD, HT, MX, MXJ, OF, VCX) qualified 5 out of 6 runs. This included 2 double Qs. If we had not wasted time on the sit on the table on the first day we would have had a 3rd double Q. Trevor now has 14 DQs and 350 MACH points!

AND...Terri reports that she had another great weekend at the Decatur, AL agility trials with Trevor. Trevor qualified 5 out of 6 runs earning two more DQs. Trevor now courts 16 DQs and 398 MACH points. We are still having sit table issues but are making progress on this front.

Lynn Uram tells us that...We had a great Mother's Day weekend at CastleGate!   On May 10th at the WCOTC agility trial in Delmont, PA, Daily (Shamont Most Unusual Day) was entered in agility for the first time in almost two years.  This was an outdoor trial, and the weather and course conditions were less than ideal---lots of rain and mud.  Daily ran beautifully for me and finished her Novice JWW title.  As icing on the cake, she got first place in the 12" class too!!  Daily is almost eight years old, and she's now happily retired to her donut bed.  <G>   Geraldo (CastleGate's Daily News, MX, MXJ, CL2-S)  really rose to the occasion as well.  He Q'ed on three of his four runs on Saturday and Sunday and picked up nine MACH points and two fourth placements in the process.  We're very excited about the fact that he now has eight QQ's.   Finishing Daily's Jumpers title and picking up another QQ for Geraldo were awesome Mother's Day gifts for me!

AND...On May 18th, Geraldo finished his second CPE title at an agility trial in Washingtonville, Ohio sponsored by the Four Seasons K9 Athlete Center.  He now gets to put a CL2-R at the end of his name along with an MX, MXJ, and CL2-S.  He ran great for me and got second place on both of his qualifying runs today!   The club that sponsored this trial gave out peanut butter bones for Q's instead of toys, and Geraldo heartily approved of that change of pace.  <G>

AND...Geraldo and I decided to spend Memorial Day at the Golden Triangle agility trial in Cheswick, PA, and boy did we have fun!!  Geraldo celebrated the holiday in style by earning his ninth QQ and seven MACH points.

Performance news from Gloria and Ken Hansen....At the WCOTC Agility Trial on May 11, our Mariah earned her Novice Standard title with a second place and also earned her Novice JWW title with a 1st place so she is now "Belaire's When You Believe NA, NAJ". She is being trained and handled by her new co-owner Nancy Craig.

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich tell us that...At the GTOTC Agility trial Memorial Day weekend in Cheswick, U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD, RA, AX, MXJ, NF, AG.I.J, NAC, NJC, OGC, RS-O, JS-O, GS-O, CL3-H, CGC, TDI “Hannah”, earned two more MXJ legs.  At the CCOC Agility trial in Cheswick the following weekend, Hannah earned two more MXJ legs, an MX leg and a Double Q.

Gloria and Ken Hansen and Elizabeth Brinkley is proud to announce that Degas, "AM/CAN/UKC CH Wynstone The Impressionist, went Best of Breed at the WPKA Kennel Assoc. show on Sunday March 30.

Cathy Artis tells us that... Kerry (Merlyn's Kerinden Siver Dawn CD, RN, HC, CGC, TDI ) competed in the Butler Dog Training Association trials this past weekend. Sad to say, the huge storm that came thru (very ill timed) with loud thunder boomers on Saturday blew him out of the ring. But on Sunday he bounced back wonderfully. He ran in Rally-Adv/B to earn his first leg with a score of 97 and third place. This, remember, is off-lead, which has been a tremendous challenge for him. I'm so proud of him ! (Picture on right)

Gloria and Ken Hansen is proud to announce that Mariah, "Belaire's When You Believe", at the Beaver County Kennel Club, Inc. trials in conjunction with WPKA shows, made her debut on Sat by taking a "1st" place in Novice Standard and a "1st" place in Novice JWW picking up a leg in both.  On Sun. she picked up her second Novice JWW leg going "1st" place again!  She is handled and trained by soon to be co-owner Nancy Craig.

Nancy Grebur tells us that...Ranger made his mom proud at the Parkersburg show the weekend of April 19th and 20th. He finished his Open Standard title with a 2nd place. The next day when we started in Excellent Standard he saved me many times. I should have just let him run alone because I just got in his way. He knew what to do and at the last obstacle he missed the contact due to me or we would have had our first Excellent leg. He forgave me and I said I'll try to do better.

AND... Nancy Grebur tells us that...Rory made his mom very proud in obtaining his Novice fast Title with a first place at Parkersburg the weekend of April 19th and 20th.  He also obtained a Standard leg that same weekend with a gorgeous run.  Lynne King and Rory looked "Terrific"! I'm soo proud of them both.

Tom and Charlotte Deibert are very happy to announce that Micah (Glendower Morningstar Delite RA, NA) finished his Novice FAST title on 4/19/2008 at the AKC American Whippet Club agility trials held in Albany, OR.  He placed second with a time of 24.22 seconds.  We are so proud of how well he is doing and how much he loves to run in agility!

Lynn Uram tells us that...On April 25th at the Cleveland Shetland Sheepdog Club's agility trial in North Olmsted, Ohio, Geraldo finished his Masters Standard title.  Friday's trial was dedicated to the memory of Jean Clodwick, and that made getting our MX title today even more special.  Finishing our MX would have been more than enough excitement for me today.  However, Geraldo had something else in mind.  He decided to kick things up a notch by qualifying on the jumpers course too giving us our sixth QQ of the year.  I'm so proud of my baby boy!!

Peter & Yvette Grandillo are very proud to announce that... Cammi and Dawson got to compete in the American Shetland Sheepdog National Agility Trial on April 15th, 2008 in Greeley, Colorado.  Cammi finished 5th in Excellent B Jumpers and 5th in Excellent B Standard.  In both runs, Cammi missed placing by .20 seconds.  It was a heartbreaker for the handler, but a fun, clean runs for the little girl.  As for Dawson, he finished 1st in Excellent B Jumpers and 1st in Excellent B Standard, both in 20 inch.  We are really proud of the fur kids.  Afterwards, Cammi & Dawson got to take a walk in a National Park called the Garden of the Gods.  Then after that, Dawson decided he was going to bark at some elk in Estes Park.  Finally, Cammi & Dawson got to scale the steps at Red Rock Amphitheater for a scenic view of the Rockies and downtown Denver.  Everyone had a great time in Colorado, but everyone was happy to get back to the Burgh... (especially since this trip included driving through a blizzard & forest fire in Colorado, a tornado in Missouri, and a 5.2 earthquake outside of St. Louis.)

Anne Trosky is happy to report that at the BCKC Agility Trial held at the Pgh. Convention Center on March 30th,  Levi(Saranac Bedazzled N Blu Jeans, NA, NAJ, CGC earned his first Open Jumpers leg with a first place.  Mom was very pleased since it was our first agility trial since last fall.  Levi was very happy just to have Mom all to himself for a few hours instead of having to share her with his new little brother Gabriel.  Some days there just isn’t enough Mom to go around!

Joyce Cummings tells us that...Today my little Electra (Cataway Splash of Blue Electra) passed her Canine Good Citizen test.  She is 10 months old.

Karen Jacobs tells us that...Damingo Christmas Treasure, CD, TDI, CGC --Noel has completed the second leg for Rally Novice at Youngstown on April 4th with a score of 93.  Special thanks to Joanna Fortson for encouraging us to continue.

Lynda Kuzbel would like to mention that... Kuz's Shelby Lyn MXJ AX CGC did real good at the Beaver County Show at the Convention Center this past weekend. On March 31, she qualified in Standard with a first place and 40 Mach points, then on April 1, she qualified in JWW with a first place and 18 more Mach points. I am just amazed at how much fun we have together out there in the ring.

Elaine Mayowski tell us that... "Mach2 Kyrie" (MACH2, U-AG1 Saranac Better In Black CDX, RN, MX, MXJ, CGC, TDI, CL1-F, CL2-R, CL2-H, CL2-S, TN-N, WV-N, NJC) earned her second Utility
Leg with a 2nd place win at the Youngstown Obedience Trial on April 5.  I am so proud of My Little Girl.  She is incredible .  One more leg to make my dreams come true "Little Bear".  I Love Ya!

Peter & Yvette Grandillo are happy to say that… At the Beaver County Kennel Club Agility Trial (Pittsburgh Convention Center) on March 29th & 30th, MACh 2 Cammi and MACh2 Dawson decided to have a cat fight over who was the better agility dog.  After each run, Cammi and Dawson could be heard in their crates squabbling over who did better.  Both had four runs and both qualified in each run earning a double-double Q.  Then Cammi and Dawson both had four placements.  Cammi earned a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th, while Dawson earned a 1st, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd all in Excellent B.  Okay, at this point, they are pretty much even.  Finally, Dawson, being the boy that he is, brought up points, he got 90 and Cammi got 70.  Granted, an edge, but still too close to call.  So they both got McDonald’s cookies on the way home, some steak for dinner, and some ice cream for dessert.  The best part of the day was watching them fall asleep, leaning against each other, exhausted from all their fun!  I swear I could hear Cammi mumbling, “Would you stop touching me!” with Dawson responding, “Then you move over, I’m too tired.”

Brags from the March 2008 Newsletter

Joyce Cummings tells us that...On Saturday March 29th at the WPKA dog show at the Pittsburgh Convention Center Cummings Chivas Regal Ltd RE, NA, OAJ, CGC (Chevy) earned his CD Obedience Title. This is my first obedience title ever on any dog and I'm just so proud of my Sheltie boy !!! Chevy said; OK now that's done!! LETS DO AGILITY !!!!!!!!!!

Terri Poirier reports that... at the Decateur, AL agility trial, Trevor (CH Saranac Bi Chance, CD, HT, MX, MXJ, NF, VCX) qualified 3 out of 6 runs. This includes another DQ and a jumpers leg for an additional 24 MACH points. Trevor now has 10 DQs and 262 MACH points. WE could have done better if it was not for the trouble in sitting on the table on the two of the standard runs.

AND...Terri Poirier reports that at recent Gateway Agility Club trial, Trevor (CH Saranac Bi Chance, CD, HT, MX, MXJ, NF, VCX) earned his open fast title and also two more DQs with 37 MACH points. He also took three fourth placements.  Trevor now has twelve DQs and 302 MACH points.

Cathy Artis tells us that...(Picture on Left) Catydid Shelties continues to have a good year.  Kerry (Merlyn's Kerinden Silver Dawn RN, HC, CGC, TDI) finished his CD title with his third leg from the Novice B class at WPKA trial on Saturday 3/29/08.  It's been a long time coming.  Maybe his little brother is helping out and putting good thoughts in his head.

Lynn Uram tells us that...At the Splash and Dash CPE Agility Trial in Washingtonville, OH on February 23rd, Elsa competed in Level Two for the first time, and she qualified and placed second on both of her runs that day.  Elaine Mayowski was with Elsa on the course for both of those runs, and as usual, she did a great job from start to finish with Elsa!

AND...On March 8th at the Butler Dog Obedience Club's agility trial in Edinboro, PA, Geraldo and I earned our third QQ and six MACH points.  As part of that QQ, we also picked up our seventh MX leg.  It was a very challenging weekend from a weather perspective.  We had almost two feet of snow from Friday morning to Sunday morning!

AND...Geraldo and I double Q'ed on March 15th and 16th at the YABTC agility trial in Washingtonville, Ohio.  We've never had a perfect weekend in AKC agility prior to this one, and I'm in total awe of my baby boy.  We're now just one qualifying leg away from his MX title and 25% of the way to the QQ's that we need for our MACH.  I'm so excited that I could just pop.  Geraldo truly outdid himself this weekend. That trial will be our last one for over a month, so it's really nice to be heading into the break on such a high note.   In addition to our back-to-back QQ's, we also accumulated enough MACH points this weekend to break the 100 MACH point mark.  That's a milestone that I was really hoping to reach prior to taking our break from the agility ring.  Elsa and her handler, Elaine Mayowski, had fun too!!  On Saturday, Elsa picked up her eighth MXJ leg and three more MACH points.  She's closing in on her next agility title!

Barb Westerman tells us that...I just got the news and have to BRAG!!   Gabe now has his MACh 15!!  He is now MACH15, ADCH Summerlove's Gabriel V BonJon HS, RN, U-AGII.  Gabe is the bi-black son of my bi-black Champion Mack (CH. Merlyn's Touched Bi Magic).  Gabe is owned by Daniel McDonald and was bred by Lorrie Reed & April Dunford.  I had the pleasure of meeting Daniel and his mother Bonnie last year at the AKC Agility National.  I couldn't have asked for a better owner for one of Mack's puppies.

Tom and Charlotte Deibert are delighted to report that... Micah (Glendower Morningstar Delite CGC, RA) earned his third leg in Novice Agility on 3/22/08 with a first place finish at the Portland Agility Club AKC trial at Canby, Oregon.

Diane Ambrose tells us that...Damingo Pedal to the Metal (Chase) passed his Canine Good Citizen and  Therapy Dog International tests on February 20th.  Chase is currently  training me in Agility.  I'm told he is very fast, so hope he will live  up to his name!

Kim and Lindsay Furlong tell us that...Masterpiece Shelties has finished our first champion! Ava is now BISS CH Armitage Avalon finishing with three 5 pt. specialty majors including a BOB under Rick Thompson to finish before 8 months of age.  We are very excited about our lovely blue girl and are looking forward to the journey that lies ahead.

Levi (Saranac Bedazzled N BluJeans, NA, NAJ, CGC) was quite upset when he realized that Mom, Anne Trosky, forgot to brag last month…sorry Leeves.  At our Specialty in February, Levi earned his first two Rally Novice legs and a second place on Saturday.  And even though we didn’t qualify in the obedience ring the judge on Sunday awarded us the “most cute points” for Levi’s adorable antics in the ring. : )  Too bad you don’t get any ribbons or Q’s for being cute!

Brags from the February 2008 Newsletter

Rita & Wayne Slepcevich tell us that...We had a great weekend at the Three Rivers Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Pittsburgh's Specialty in Washington PA.U-ACH Hullston’s Return To Sender CD, RA, OA, OAJ, NAP, NJP, AG.N, NAC, OJC, NGC, JS-N, CL1-R, CL1-H, CGC, TDIA, VCC, FFXP “Hayley” & U-AGI Homespun Sweet Home Chicago CD, RA, AX, MXJ, NF, AG.I.J, NAC, NJC, OGC, RS-N, JS-O, GS-O, CL3-H, CGC, TDI “Hannah”, teamed up for the first time in “just for fun” Brace Obedience, wowing the crowd (and their handler) and taking 1st place both days. Then we continued the fun in the afternoon in the Rally ring. “Hannah”, earned her first Rally Excellent leg on Saturday and her second with a 3rd place on Sunday. “Hayley”, earned her second Rally Excellent leg on Saturday and finished her title on Sunday, and is now officially happily retired...for real this time! Special thanks go out to Jackie Herbein, who ran the fastest Rally Excellent course in history so that Hayley’s turn as Honor Dog didn’t last one second longer than it had to. By the time she finally got in the ring (Hayley was the last dog to compete in the show), this 11 1/2 year old was ready for a nap, and wouldn’t have thought twice about laying down right there in the ring to do it!

Denise Letterman tells us that...At the TRSSCGP specialty show on February 2nd and 3rd, Pontifex Maximus J Caesar, RE, CGC earned his CD title by taking 1st place on Sunday. Caesar is my rescue dog who has done very well in rally obedience by completing his RE title 7 months after entering the competition ring with1st place wins and2nd place wins. The CD was earned with two 1st place wins and one 2nd place win -- and one we just want to forget. Now, on to open.

AND...At the TRSSCGP specialty show on February 2nd and 3rd, Homespun Steel City Dream "Troy" entered competition for the first time taking 1st place on Saturday in Rally Obedience and 2nd place on Sunday. This was a big step for him and I am hopeful for a lot of future brags not only in rally but also in agility.

Terri Poirier reports.. Trevor (CH Saranac Bi Chance CD, HT, MX, MXJ, NF, VCX) qualified five out of six runs at the Tricounty Agility trial. This included two more double Qs and 34 more MACH points. Trevor now has 9 DQs and 242 MACH points.

Lynn Uram tells us that...At the Tamarack agility trial in Edinboro, PA on February 9th and 10th, Geraldo earned his fifth MX leg. He's now half way to his MX title!!<G>He also qualified in Jumpers and earned additional MACH points on that run. After having taken three weeks off, it was really nice to be back in the agility ring with him.

AND…Geraldo (CastleGate's Daily News AX, MXJ, CGC, CL2-S) and Elsa (Can CH Kelbren Hither, AXJ, CGC, CL1-R, CL1-S)a great time at the Border Collie Agility Trial on February 16th and 17th in Edinboro, PA. qualified in Jumpers both days and earned her sixth and seventh MXJ legs. She also picked up 10 MACH points in the process. We're so proud of Elsa, and we're very grateful to Elaine Mayowski for the fabulous job she does with Elsa in the ring. Geraldo and I had an awesome weekend too!! On Sunday, we picked up our second QQ and nine MACH points!! As part of that QQ, Geraldo earned his sixth MX leg with a fourth place finish. moved the Excellent B class, I didn't ever expect to place again, so that was a nice surprise. I've never been prouder of my baby boy than I was this weekend. He gave me his all!!

Ozzy tells us that...The picture gives you a good idea why I need a new handler. This is how he gets me to the Trial. Down a hill, turned around, and into the trees. A top performance dog like me can’t be subjected to this kind of treatment and be expected to run at my peak form. How could I ever stay focused? Do you know what he said to me as we slid down the hill? “Hold On” The dope said hold on. I’m seeing my life flash through my mind and he says hold on. With what? Actually I recovered quite well and saved the day with a fourth place finish in my jumpers run on February 17 at the BCSOA Trial in Edinboro, PA. This is my first placement in Excellent B. He’s so slow……. oZZy

Cathy Artis tells us that...Catydid Shelties is continuing on a roll. Braedy (Kelvington's Braeden O' Rob Roy) completed his TDI certification on 2/2/08.He plans to start his therapy dog visitations with his older brother as soon as his paper work is complete.

Libby Wade tells us that: My young blue male, Kenji, Cathance Kirby Kenji, went WD at the Pasco KC show Florida Judge Carol Duffy Monday, 01/14/2008. He is not quite 2 years old yet and he starts his show career with a 3 point major. Then to top off the day, he goes Best of Breed over 3 specials and then makes the cut in the Group Ring. It was great to watch him and thanks to Kathy Glorio so for showing him.

AKC/CKC/UKC BPIS BIMBS Ch. Wynstone's The Impressionist has been named by UKC as the No. 7 Shetland Sheepdog in their 2007 Top Ten Show Dogs Competition and invited to attend the UKC Premiere show in June 2008. Degas is co-owned by Ken and Gloria Hansen, Elizabeth Brinkley, Jan Williams and Jennifer Graham.

Rusty Cromer & Debbie Hull tell us that...Last fall Rusty and I sent our sable bitch, Macdega Provence aka Cache sporting one point towards her title out with former junior handler, turned pro, Lindsay Spitznogle. We advised her to just have fun showing. While at the Columbus All-Breed shows in November, Lindsay handled Cache to a major reserve under judge Del Richards and WB/BW/BOS under judges Robert Shreve and Linda Robey. A week later at Agathon KC, the team repeated their win of WB/BW/BOS under judge Joan Kefeli. Taking a few weeks off to await the arrival of the latest couture fashions, the ladies arrived dressed to the nines to compete at our club Specialty Show on February 2nd.Theythemselves by going WB/BW for a huge 5 point specialty major under judge Patty Skinner!! It was a first for us in several ways - a win at our club show, a 5 point major and to put the icing on the cake, I was on the end of the lead when Cache was awarded BISS over the specials!! It was quite obvious to Rusty that I hadn’t recovered from the shock of winning the major yet so all she could think of was that if the judge points to Debbie, she’s going to pass out and land on the dog. Luckily, by then my feet were too far off the ground for that to take place. For once, I was utterly speechless. What a dream day! Thank you to the judges who appreciated Cache and to our club members and friends for their support. There’s nothing like winning in front of the home town crowd. A HUGE THANKS to Lindsay as Cache now sports 10 points, one major!! You Go Girl, You Rock!!

Peter & Yvette Grandillo are proud to announce… At the Border Collie Agility Trial on February 16th & 17th, 2008, Cammi and Dawson had a field day. First they got a long walk in the snow chasing one another on a golf course. In addition, they got a vanilla ice cream cone from Dairy Queen. Then after all that, they took turns sleeping on dad’s belly. What did they do to deserve all this! All in Excellent B agility, Dawson double Q’d both Saturday and Sunday, and he took one 2nd place finish and three 3rd place finishes. Cammi double Q’d one day, splitting another day, and she took two 2nd place finishes. By the time they got home, Cammi and Dawson were so tired, they did even chase a bunny in the backyard that both could clearly see when they went out.

Lynn Uram tells us that...On December 29th, Elsa, Geraldo, Chet, and I competed at the CPE Agility Trial in Washingtonville, Ohio.  We had a perfect day---literally and figuratively.  Elsa, Chet, & Geraldo, qualified AND placed on every run!!   Collectively, they had seven first place finishes, two second place finishes, and two fourth place finishes.  As an added bonus, Elsa finished two titles at that trial, and Chet finished a title too.  I had the pleasure of being on the course myself with Chet and Geraldo, and Elaine Mayowski did a lovely job of handling Elsa for us.  It was a great way to ring out the old year!!  AND...We had a fabulous time at our first agility trial of the New Year!!  At the Erie Kennel Club's agility trial on January 4th in Edinboro, PA, Geraldo got his first Double Q and nine MACH points to go along with it!!  Two days later, it was Elsa's turn to shine.  She got her first Double Q, her first MX leg, and her first MACH point that Sunday.  As always, Elsa was beautifully handled in the ring by Elaine Mayowski!!  Elsa loves to run with Elaine.   Our Sunday got even better.  Nicky, one of the tri males from Elsa's first litter two year ago, qualified and placed in Novice Standard that day.  It was his first agility leg, and we thought it was very cool that he earned it on the same day and at the same show where his dam got her first Double Q.  Nicky is loved and trained by Lou and Janet Norman of Erie, PA. AND...On January 19th and 20th at the Admiral Perry Agility Trial in Edinboro, PA, Elsa (Can Ch Kelbren Come Hither AX, AXJ, CGC, CL1-R, CL1-S) qualified both days in Jumpers and earned her fourth and fifth MXJ legs and five MACH points.  Geraldo (CastleGate's Daily News, AX, MXJ, CGC, CL2-S) also qualified in Jumpers both days and added another eight MACH points to his point total.  It was a very cold and snowy weekend, but we had fun anyway.  Our thanks go out to Elaine Mayowski for handling Elsa to her exciting Q's!!
